There is only one way that I know of in the stock configuration to avoid backfiring on deceleration.
When you roll the throttle off - roll it all the way off - closing off the carburator entirely.
This way there is no gasoline pumping through the engine and building up in the exhaust leading to those annoying backfires.
It does require a different sort of riding discipline - it still does not feel natural to me to have my throttel behave like a light switch - on or off when slowing down.
Try it - next time you are riding and you want to start slowing down - close the throttle entirely.
My guess is you will be pleased at the absence of backfiring.
